Instructions
Use WASD or the Arrow Keys to move and jump. You can stick to walls by holding in their direction, and jump off of them. You can also press and hold down to duck and make yourself smaller. Sometimes you'll need to do this to fit into tight spaces.
For a harder challenge, you can try to collect all the yellow apples in each level, and the secret hidden giant red apple. Here's a tip: some walls aren't as solid as they seem!
Once you've played the regular levels, you can try out the level editor to make your own! Press the number keys 1-7 to choose which type of tile you are placing. Press it again to rotate between the different options in each tile-type. Press R to rotate the tile, and press E to turn on the eraser.
If you want to test your level, press M to enter Play Mode. Then press Q to go back to Edit mode.
Once you like your design, press Save, and then double click the string in line 3 and copy it somewhere safe (like in your email!). Then you can share it and let your friends give it a try!
NOTE: If you press Load on the level editor, make sure to paste in a valid code, or else you'll have to refresh the page.
Appel Game Strategy
This game takes an extreme amount of coordination and timing in order to play successfully. Don’t be intimidated though, there are a few things that you can do to hone in your skills and become a truly great Appel player.
Hit your checkpoints
Making it to each checkpoint should be an absolute priority in Appel. This will ensure that you won’t lose your progress in the level. When you feel yourself getting near a checkpoint, try to really lock in and focus.
Try and get every single apple
While it’s not a necessity, getting every single apple in each level is a fun challenge that will really elevate your Appel game experience. You will learn all different kinds of skills in your attempt to achieve this feat, from jumping, to dodging enemies, to finding hidden doors that contain secret apples.
Learn from your mistakes
While playing Appel, you are almost guaranteed to make a lot of mistakes. It’s just the nature of the game! However, how you react to your mistakes will heavily dictate your future outcomes. If you get angry and choose to not learn from your mistakes, then you will set yourself up for failure. On the other hand, if you are able to keep your head level and learn from your mistakes, then you will begin to see rapid improvement.
Play around with the level editor
One of the most unique parts of Appel is the level editor option. As mentioned previously, this gives you the ability to make your own stages in Appel. Use this to your advantage by creating levels with attributes that you aren’t quite comfortable with. For instance, if you struggle with jumping off of walls, create a level that has a lot of different wall jumps of varying difficulty. This will help you get comfortable with the mechanics.
Your goal is to get to the end of the level. Use WASD or the Arrow Keys to move and jump. Jump into a wall and hold left or right (whichever direction the wall is in) to stick to it.
