Overview: Students play Cash Clash, a competitive financial literacy trivia game.
Introduction: In Cash Clash, players compete against each other in timed, head-to-head trivia.
Objectives:
Through the game, the student will…
- - Engage in friendly competition with their peers
- - Apply reasoning and deduction skills to pick the correct answer in multiple choice questions
- - Test their general knowledge of financial literacy with questions covering these topics:
- - Income & Careers
- - Taxes
- - Spending Wisely
- - Budgeting
- - Saving
- - Investing
- - Insurance
- - Fraud & Identity Theft
- - Credit & Credit Scores
- - Borrowing & Loans
How to set up a private game for your class:
- - Have all players go to the following URL: https://www.coolmathgames.com/0-cash-clash
- - From your computer, or a student's computer, create a Match by clicking "Create Match" and set it to "Private". (note that the creator of the match will be part of the game, but doesn't need to answer).
- - Choose from three preset game modes:
- - We recommend "Versus" or "Teams" to start (Hardcore Versus is quite unforgiving because players aren't allowed to make mistakes).
- - In "Versus," each student plays solo.
- - In "Teams," students can form teams by picking a color.
The "Consensus" setting controls how teams answer.
- - Enabled - any team member can change the team's answer
- - Disabled - the choice with the most votes is submitted
- - You can fine tune each game mode further by clicking the "Custom" tab and tweaking the settings in it:
- - Once you've set up the game mode to your liking, you can invite your students by clicking the "Invite Friends" button.
- - This will copy a URL to your clipboard. Send this URL to your students and ask them to paste it in the address bar of their browser.
- - They should join the game automatically (they can customize their character before joining).
- - Depending on your preference and how you think your students will best respond, you can change the scoring system:
- - Progressive - The default setting. Correct answers start at 100 points, then increase in value as the game goes on. No extra points are given for speed or answering first.
- - Order - Points are given based on who was the quickest between players
- - Fixed - Each question awards the same number of points
- - Speed - Points are given based on how quickly the question is answered
- - Streak - Players earn more points for consecutive correct answers; an incorrect answer resets the streak
