Instructions
Tap on the arrows to select one of four modes or select random to get a random mode. When you're in the game, tap the on-screen arrows to move the platforms to bounce the balls and break the blocks.
You can select from one of the following modes:
- One ball: Standard Breakout where you have to bounce one ball against the blocks and try not to lose the ball
- Two ball: Standard Breakout where you have to bounce TWO balls!
- Cavity: Use one ball to break out two balls stuck in the blocks
- Progressive: After every few seconds, a new row of blocks will be added. Try to clear out all the blocks as fast as you can before they reach the bottom!
The longer you play Atari Breakout, the faster the pace will get. This means that it gets continually more difficult the further you get in the game. Stay focused and keep your cool and you will be fine though!

When was Atari Breakout released?
Atari Breakout was released in 1976. It was at least partially inspired by another game on our site, Atari Pong. It is a surprise to most people that the game was designed by Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple. Along with this, Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow also had key parts in the release of Atari Breakout. To learn more about this, check out the wiki on the history of Atari Breakout.
Can you still play Atari Breakout?
Yes! As of 2022, Atari Breakout is completely playable here at Coolmath Games, as well as a few other classic Atari Games such as Pong, Asteroids, and Missile Command.
How many points is each round of Atari Breakout worth?
In each round of the classic single mode, players earn 468 points for completing it. This keeps on going as you go from round to round. A good goal for beginners is to get through 5 rounds without getting knocked out, which would add up to 2,340 points.
