Instructions

Click and drag in any direction to form words. You have to start with the first letter of the word, otherwise it won't work. Play with up to four players! TIP: Longer words are worth more points.

Speed is key in Word Race. In the Default version, every time a player finds a word, all of the letters become unusable to the rest of the group. This means that Word Race is a true zero-sum game. Every time your opponent finds a word, those letters are being stolen from you.

While speed is important, taking a little time to identify longer words is also key. For example, a 4-letter word is worth significantly more points than a 3-letter word. One piece of advice is that if you find a word, take a second to look around for an S. Most nouns can be turned into plural nouns just by attaching an ‘S’ to them. For example, finding the word ‘Sock’ will earn you 320 points. However, if you add an ‘S’ to the word, it will earn you 500 points. Just making a word plural boosts your score by over 50%!

If you get tired of the Default version of Word Race, you can always experiment around with the other modes. There are 4 different options — Default, Party, Blitz, and Solo. The Party option has a bigger board and allows for multiple languages. The Blitz version has a lot of short rounds that include score multipliers. Finally, the Solo round gives each player their own board, meaning that letters can’t be stolen from you by other players.

If you are looking for another word game that has a little bit more of a relaxed feel to it, we recommend checking out either Words of Wonders or Cryptograms. Both games have elements that are similar to Word Race, but you don’t need to be focused so much on competition and timers.

Which game mode should I start with?

The Default mode is the one we recommend starting with, since it isn’t too stressful and you’ll be able to understand the concept pretty quickly. However, if you want something that is a little bit more relaxed, the Solo mode is probably the way to go. This way, letters won’t get stolen by other players, and you can take it at your own pace.

How can I get better at Word Race?

The only real way to improve your Word Race skill level is to practice. As you start to play more and more, it will be easier to find words that will be worth some serious points. So, play around with some of the different modes, find the one that you enjoy the most, and start playing a bunch!
