Word Detector Instructions

Test your spelling by connecting the letter tiles to spell words. Tap and drag to link letters and spell words. Use the letters and the blank spaces provided to find words that could help you complete the challenges and reach the next level.

You’ll earn coins for every level completed. If you need a hint to help you make a word, tap on the light bulb for a hint. Each hint you use will cost you some coins, so use them wisely!

WORD DETECTOR TIPS & TRICKS

Look away. If you find yourself stuck on a particular group of letters, take a step away from the screen. Having a refreshed view of the letters after a break can help your brain make new inferences on what words to detect.

Don’t overthink it. Most of the words you have to find are short, so it can be easy to overlook some obvious connections. Study the letters you have on hand and see what words you can immediately make up. Often, the first ones you see will be the answers!

Go long first. It can be easier to get the longer words out of the way. Spelling out the words from bottom to top can sometimes give you a hint as to what the shorter ones are. For example, if you spell out the word “eat,” you can also make “at” and “ate” with the same pool of letters.

WHAT YOU LEARN FROM PLAYING WORD DETECTOR

Word Detector is a bit different than our other free word games, but uses the same set of skills to exercise your brain. Much like the Daily Jumble, players have to use their spelling and vocabulary skills to make educated guesses on words based on the letters provided. Whether looking to test your language skills, your spelling or your brain power, this is the game for you.

OTHER WORD GAMES TO ENJOY

Looking for your next challenge? Why not try our version of Hangman – the classic spelling and guessing game. Guess the letters one at a time, and for every wrong guess a balloon pops!  Too many wrong guesses and the monster will gobble you up.

You can also try out Words Family. Fill the empty grid with different groups of letter tiles to spell out words in each row. You can also try Unolingo, a game similar to a crossword puzzle, but each letter is only used once. Check out our other free online word games for more spelling fun!
